Funny, last night I was thinking that I should also post my mom's frosting recipe that she always used, since I posted her cut-out cookie recipe and they go together. So, here it is. If you use shortening, the frosting is more white and colors prettier. Or just use store bought frosting if that's something you happen to keep on hand (it's just softer coming out the decorating tubes if you decorate that way).
1/2 cup margarine (or shortening), softened
3 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 to 2 Tbsp milk
Beat margarine until fluffy. slowly add half of the powdered sugar and beat well. Continue to beat while adding vanilla and milk. Keep mixing and gradually add remaining sugar. Use more milk if necessary.
This is your frosting recipe, right, Mom?
