This is the recipe my mother always used to make cut-out cookies when I was a kid. This is actually her recipe halved, so if you want to make some to keep and to give away, then, by all means, double the recipe!
3 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt
1 cup margarine (or butter or shortening)
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla
3 Tbsp milk
Combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. In another bowl, cream together margarine and sugar. Add egg, vanilla, and milk. Beat until fluffy. Stir in dry ingredients. Roll to 1/8" thick and cut out with cookie cutters. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet @ 350` for 10 to 12 minutes. Don't over cook! (They're NOT suppose to be golden brown at all) Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
P.S. If you want to make a giant cookie, bake it a little longer, maybe 20 minutes or so. I'd even turn the temp down to 325' and see if it'll cook for 25 min.
